Château Capbern (Cru Bourgeois) ligger i Saint Estèphe, syd for Château Calon Ségur (3. Cru) og lige nord for Château Montrose (2. Cru).
Cru).
Château Capbern and Château Calon Ségur can be rightfully called brothers: In 2012 they entered their second spell under the same ownership. For more than 100 years, since 1894 until 2012 they both belonged to the Gasqueton family; after the charming and vivacious Mme Gasqueton who managed it until the respectable age of 87, passed away both properties were acquired by the Suravenir Insurance company. With the arrival of the new owner, standards for wine quality were raised and measures to achieve them were undertaken. In the case of Château Capbern, the renovation was not needed as it only had been completed in 2011. The changes took place in the management of the estate – Laurent Dufau, the grandson of a vigneron, born and brought up in Medoc, was taken on board as Director. His appointment brought incredible results: The 2014 vintage was the best wine in the estate’s existence. Since 2013 the name was shortened to Château Capbern to give a fresher ring and image to its wines.
