Det franske vinmagasin Bourgogne Aujourd’hui satte sig for at finde den bedste hvidvin af alle Premier Cru'er: Grivault's Meursault 1er Cru Monopole "Clos des Perrières" kom øverst på skamlen!

The word "Perrières" indicates the presence of old quarries. Chassagne stone was once mined in this area. The word "clos" emphasizes that the vineyard is surrounded by walls. This "Clos des Perrières" is an exceptional terroir in the heart of the Perrières vineyard, distinguished by its own AOP 1er Cru. With its original wall-enclosure and its elegant gate, this jewel stands out from the other Perrières by its very stony nature, and the depth and specific composition of the clay-loam-sand soil: Clay 46 %, silt 30 %, and sand 24 % respectively. Like Montrachet, half of it is on a Jurassic Bathonian outcrop and half on colluvium.
Monopoly of the estate, with a surface area of 94 ares and 52 centiares, half of the "Clos des Perrières" was replanted in 1986 and the other half in 1989. It produces 5,000 bottles annually (average over 20 years).
The wine is aged in oak barrels, of which a fifth are generally new. The wine is bottled in August and then released into the market the following January. In the June 1989 Vin de France review, Michel Bettane described the 1988 vintage as "the most concentrated wine tasted in this vintage, which is still rather intense, but with an aromatic quality that makes it really close to a Montrachet". The Clos des Perrières regularly wins medals at the Concours Général Agricole de Paris, and many other successes have followed. This is a wine that ages gracefully.
